Minty, Wilda
July 20, 1931 – March 4, 2022

Wilda Jean Minty, our Mom, Grandma, Great Grandma, Aunt and friend, passed away peacefully March 4, 2022.

“What I make with my hands, I give with my heart” was a sentiment that Mom lived by. We all have memories of her bringing homemade buns to family gatherings, making jean quilts out of favourite pairs of jeans, and baking birthday cakes (with money in them – the most exciting thing to a 5 year old!).

Wilda was a very accomplished sewer and quilter and spent time creating gifts for her family and for fundraisers. When a baby was born into her family, she made each of them a blanket and a special pillow, and the pillow often became a great adventure companion and inseparable confidante.

Wilda enjoyed gardening and spending time in her yard and later in life, on her balconies. When she moved from Asquith into an apartment in Saskatoon, we all thought she would put her feet up and relax. Instead, she started renting a garden plot in a nearby community garden (which she may have kept a secret from her children!).

Wilda loved to sing, and CJWW was on in her house everyday (unless curling was on TV and then that took first place). She was very proud of being an active community member and taking part in different activities, including the Hawoods Homemakers, Royal Purple, Asquith United Church, Asquith BLRA Seniors Centre, and joining in in the social activities wherever she lived.

Mom will be missed but remembered in our hearts. She was the last of the Johnston siblings from Asquith, and was pre-deceased by her husband, Ronald. She is survived by her three children, Sharon (Clint), Doug (Dawn) and Janice (Terry); numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and her sister-in-law, Edith.

If you wish to make a donation in Mom’s memory, please consider the Asquith BLRA Seniors Centre.

Anyone who knew Mom knows that she was not a fan of cold weather, so we will be holding a celebration of her life this summer.

Condolences may be left at www.saskatoonfuneralhome.com. Arrangements entrusted to SASKATOON FUNERAL HOME (306-244-5577).
