Cowlishaw, Stanley Ernest – May 16, 1933 – May 9, 2022. It is with great sadness that we announce his passing. A celebration of life service was held on Saturday, May 14 at Biggar United Church.
Stan was the only child of Ernest Cowlishaw and Ida (Edwards) who emigrated from England in 1913 and 1926. Stan married Ellen (Bullock) in 1955. They farmed 8 miles north and one mile east of Biggar (property originally purchased in 1940 by Stan’s parents so he could be closer to Monarch School, which he began to attend when he was eight years old).
Stan was predeceased by Ellen (1998). He is survived by his children Glenda Schmidtke (Wayne), Donna Burlock (Gary) & Wes (Kelly); grandchildren Brenden, Amy, Grant, Allie & Leah; and several in-laws and nieces and nephews.
Stan farmed for 65 years, but recently moved to town. He curled with his neighbors for many winters. He was a proud supporter of businesses in Biggar. Community involvement included being a Wheat Pool member, and canvassing for natural gas to be connected to a large number of yard sites north of town.
Stan’s family wish to thank everyone who attended his service, and all who have expressed condolences, sent flowers, cards and food. We also want to thank staff of Biggar Home Care and the Biggar Hospital and care home.
