Riya retired from City Hall in 1991. She then babysat her granddaughter Ariel till the age of 5. Riya was always known for her love of gardening, especially her tomatoes and cucumbers. Each year, she could hardly wait till spring and start all her seedlings. Her yard had many fruit trees and shrubs. She loved canning fruits and vegetables, making jams, jelly, salsa, and baking fruit pie. She generously gave to her family, friends and neighbors. When she wasn’t doing that, you could find her knitting/crocheting afghans, baby clothes, and other items which she also would give away. Riya was also a lifetime member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 362 in Saskatoon. Riya had a great love of dogs, her latest little dog, Riley, was usually beside her, or at her feet. The family would like to thank grandson Scott for making her final resting place, an urn reflective of her life and hobbies.
