Charles Leonidas Joseph Martin was born the second son to Alfred & Cecile Martin on August 8, 1935, a brother to Roger, Monique and Freddie.
Dad started school in Lydden in 1942 he could not speak English. He then attended Conway and the Convent in Biggar.
Dad did not enjoy or feel the need for school, so he quit after grade 8 to work the land with his dad.
Dad met his soul mate Bernice Carruthers at a dance at Oxborough Hall in 1955. They married October 14, 1957.
The union resulted in three daughters, Charlene, Cheryl and Charlotte and now eight grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren.
Dad worked for Imperial Oil, Biggar Transport and C.N.R. before deciding to farm full time and raise cattle.
Dad had a great love for horses, especially Belgians. He spent hours working with them, drove them every afternoon and offered sleigh and wagon rides to his kids, grandkids, school kids and different organizations in town.
Dad rented out the land in 1995 and sold the cattle in 1998, but kept a few horses to keep him busy.
Dad and Mom travelled some but he was not fond of flying so instead started doing bus trips where they met many wonderful and life long friends.
Dad and Mom left the farm in 2014 and moved to town starting a new chapter of their life which included new friendships and many card games.
In recent years dads health was challenging, it knocked him down a few times but he bounced back until he was just to tired to do so.
In sickness and in health Dad and Mom were each others strength for 65 years, 9 months.
Dad passed peacefully on June 21, 2023.
Mass of Christian Burial was held on June 27, 2023 at St.Gabriels Roman Catholic Church in Biggar.
